The humans behind the courses – Dr. Kholoud Al Dimashki

We have a lot of passionate instructors using oktopi! Each week, we’re shining the spotlight on an instructor so people can get to know the humans behind the passion for teaching

Dr. Kholoud Al Dimashki is a PhD holder in English Language and Literature with more than 20 years of experience in journalism. She’s a mental health educator and soon-to-become international master life coach, as well as a YouTuber, university professor and the co-founder of a cultural forum in Lebanon اللقاء الثقافي في ضهور الشوير.

How did you get into tutoring?

Tutoring has always been my passion. That’s why I chose a major that would give me the opportunity to live my passion all my life. Choosing English language and literature gave me the opportunity to enjoy my hobby of reading and teaching simultaneously.

What do you do after you’ve finished tutoring for the day?

First things first, I would make my coffee and enjoy my peace of mind for half an hour and then go again into my work responsibilities. If it happened and I had no heavy load, I would enjoy the company of a book.

 What is your teaching style?

I hate traditional, teacher-centered, and boring lecture-like classes. I am a very active person, so class to me is like a living laboratory. I would experiment with students. I may play a game with students that would help them reach the lesson objective faster. I involve students in the teaching process. I always tell them that teachers nowadays are only facilitators.

What do you enjoy most about teaching?

In these trying times, I am tempted to say the holidays, but seriously speaking, I enjoy the teaching process and I hate the testing phase. I believe teaching and testing are in a conflicting relationship as the way we test students, in general, is quite intimidating and leads students to downsizing themselves into numbers. This annoys me.

Why did you choose oktopi?

Oktopi is a platform that would allow the instructors to experiment and freely set what suits each course. So, it is a space of freedom and trust that an instructor cannot resist.

Khouloud has two courses on oktopi about how to find your type of personality and how to handle toxic relationships that you can find on our learnspace.
